She Thrives’ shares her Story
Out of our deepest pain we can heal our world.
This truly is the start of a dream called She Thrives. I believe that this was the plan from the very beginning. That out of the hardest parts of my life came this hope for others to have a different story. As a child of a single mom, and lack of a supportive family unit, my mom struggled to protect and provide for us. The choices that were made in the midst of financial insecurity and unhealthy relationship examples put us in a constant state of struggle and vulnerability. Seeing first hand the large gaps in our system that kept us stuck and consistently falling behind. Being raised by a single mother, the stress levels are high and the availability she has to care and be fully present with her children are low. She is limited with what her children desire and need from her most, her.
She Thrives was a dream born out of the hope that there had to be another way. We must nurture the nurturers and fill in these systematic gaps to give them a better chance. Since I became a mom myself, I have been driven to create safe places for women to connect and support one another. After running a moms supportive group of over 100 women for 6+ years and running a women's ministry for the last 5 years, I have continued to see the same struggles and lack of support for these moms and the downfalls that come along with it.
In 2015, my husband and I were in a meeting dreaming of what we could do if we couldn’t fail and we looked at each other and both said we would buy the Motel across from where we were at the time and turn it into housing for single moms. From then on we couldn’t let the thought go. We continued to work hard creating healing communities around us in our different fields but never forgetting about that dream. For years we prayed and researched what it would take to take on such a huge responsibility.
In August of 2023 we had plans to have dinner with some new friends. That night the wife looked at me and said “ So tell me about this non profit you are dreaming about”. I was completely taken back since I had no idea that a friend of mine had told her about it. I began to tell her my hopes and dreams for this mission and she immediately said “Let’s do It”! And that day Medea became my partner in this mission start up! The dream has become even bigger than I could imagine and the people that have come along to help us have been a huge asset to getting us started!
So Here we are, moving towards this dream and the call to care for these women well. One day at a time and One mom at a time! This dream needs all to participate to ensure a future for our moms. Our commitment is anchored in the "4 Ps" that the Father brings to the home:
Protection: We will provide safe housing for single moms (of children under the age of five) and their families for a specified period, ensuring a secure environment.
Provision: We will offer essential assistance, including food, clothing, and basic necessities, to alleviate their immediate needs.
Presence: We will foster a supportive community, offering counseling and a range of support services to ensure they are not alone in their journey.
Preparation: We will equip single mothers for their future through programs and workshops that cover budgeting, nutrition, parenting, critical life skills, and job readiness, preparing them for a brighter tomorrow that includes meaningful employment opportunities.
